Questions About the USB Reader Network Capabilities

Questions:

I am very interested in your product Floppy to USB flash reader, I thing that this solution can help a lot to my needs, but I have got several questions to make:

I have to collect data from several very old PCs located in stations far away from the place of data collection and also far among them. These PCs write some data in the diskette. Usually an operator has to go and remove the diskette with data. This procedure is slow and expensive.

My intention is to replace the diskette drivers by SFRDs and access them via network. Is it possible to connect from a distant PC (collection point) to each one of the SFDRs via dialed modem, by using the telephone network?

Considering that I will have several remote stations to access, but I do not need simultaneous access to them, only one Network driver in the collection point is enough, or I need one per remote SFDR?

By means of the SW Network Transfer System, is it possible to automatize the pooling of the different SFRDs to collect data (batch file, or sth like this) or only is possible the manual operation?

The network system in proprietary and will not run using your existing network.

USB Reader and Ethernet connection for CNC Mills

The Situation:

We have several older Haas CNC mills that all have floppy drives installed in the machine. Would it be possible using your device to connect these machines to our Ethernet to load programs directly into the machine?

The Solution:

Yes, this device will work. If your machine by chance uses anything other than a standard IBM drive then you will need to let us know so that we can get the corresponding match.

The Ethernet port is used with proprietary software which is about $75 more per device and will not connect to existing networks. Email us for more details about this.

Will this USB reader work with a Haas TM-1?

Question:
I need to know if this will work with a Haas TM-1 year is 2004? It has no floppy port now but the svc tech said it has the port. Also, how much is this?

Answer:
As long as the machine has the cables for the floppy and work with standard IBM drives, then it will work. If it does not work with standard drives, then please ask your tech what drive it uses and I'll send the corresponding drive.

I was looking at your 3 ½ floppy drive to USB flash drive reader upgrade and was wondering if it would work for a couple of CNC machines that I have. They are "Southwestern Industries Prototak MX3 " and " Haas VMC . If so are these upgrades just plug and play? Thanks for any help .

Answer:
Yes, they are plug and play. If your drive uses the standard IBM drive then you can just purchase the standard drive from us. If not, let me know what type of drive it uses and we will send you the corresponding version.

USB for HAAS VF2 machine... would it work?

Question:

I would like to get a quote on the Disk Drive Upgrade, Floppy Drive to USB Converter.

We here have a Haas VF2 machine. Also I would like to know if this drive works on the SPC-II controls for the Boston Digital machines which use 2DD type of floppy disks of 720K capaity.

Answer:

AS long as the drive is IBM compatible and the disks can be read in both the machine and in a PC then, it will work fine. If the disk is not IBM compatible, let us know the brand (it should say on it) and ill give you the corresponding drive.

USB for Agie 100D wire machine...will this one work?

THE SITUATION:

We are interested in the floppy drive emulator with the networking option.

Our troubled system is an Agie 100D wire machine with legacy FDD set up as Drive 0 and Drive 1. We may also be interested in resale to several other companies with this same and similar equipment.

Please provide all the information and pricing required to order all components.

Our original equipment:
2 drives connected with straight 34 pin cable. (like the standard FDD cables but without the twisted section normally on dual drives). The drives are Panasonic JU-253-011P and JU-253-013P (best I can tell is the last three digits determine the drive 0 or drive 1 configuration). These are 720k DSDD drives and there are no settings (bios or physical) we may adjust on the system.

We would like:
2 Floppy drive emulators setup to work as the originals and with a network setup for connecting to a PC on our existing network.

OUR ANSWER:

Our system would work, if a regular disk works in both this machine and, in a regular PC. For example, if you use the disk on the equipment, can you then go to your PC and see the files just by going to MY COMPUTER and then the A drive?

If so, you shouldn’t have any problems. Just be sure to let us know all the info you sent when ordering.

Can I install a USB Reader on....

QUESTION: Can the 3 1/2 drive to USB drive be installed on a BIESSE ROVER 323 CNC machine?

The floppy drives TO BE replaced so far are as follows :

ANSWER: Yes, some pins have to be added to make it work. These are the optional pins:

A. Recent IBM drives (past 20 years): No options. Only one standard remains for PCs.

B. Non-american drive options:

- Is the disk drive ID set as Drive 0, 1, 2, 3?
- Is pin 2 a high density disk control pin (controlled by machine, he will try low density then high density manually and see what outputs proper data on the read line)
- Is pin 2 or pin 4 a high density output sensor? (disk drive optosensor tells you whether the tab is missing on the floppy drive)
- Is pin 2 disabled (high density is autodetected and the floppy drive always puts out proper data)
- Is pin 2 or pin 34 the disk change (notification that disk has been ejected and another placed into it)
- Is pin 34 ready or disk change
- (rarer) Is drive at 300rpm or 360rpm
- (rarer) Is drive have 2.0/1.0 capacity (high or double density) or 2.0/1.6/1.0 capacity (high or double or in-between??)

Looks very STANDARD, for a non-american drive. In this case, the same dipswitch settings may work for both. My documentation says the *Tajima/Barudan/Happy* model that we had should work immediately. The SFDR-1-A, I believe.

Using a USB reader on a Greco Sytems MINIFILE Plus-SS2

QUESTION: Hello, we just bought your 3 = floppy disk drive to USB flash drive reader converter, I am trying to use it with a Greco Sytems MINIFILE Plus-SS2, the old version without USB (http://www.grecosystems.com/products/minifile.html).

I replaced the original floppy reader, when I plug my USB drive, the red light flashes, when i try to access the files from my system I have a "Disk Time Out" message and the green LED on your drive isn't flashing at all. Any advice?

ANSWER: Setting the drive to 720 is a possibility. That would be pin number 8.

As for setting it to drive 0 or drive 1, I do not know which dipswitch that is.

You could have a IBM USB drive and trying to replace a TEAC.

QUESTION: I have a Roland MC-50 MIDI Sequencer. Would this unit work so I could replace the floppy drive?

ANSWER: The conditions of whether the USB floppy will work out for your machine are:

1) The system must be using DOS and FAT or FAT16. If MS-DOS or Windows can read the floppy, it is likely to work.

2) We must have the model number of the floppy drive so we can match it to one of our models.

QUESTION: I have a number of slim floppy drives on site which I would like to upgrade to your product using USB. The drives I have installed are a slim TEAC model FD-05HF. I have a couple of questions, what are the rear connections on this unit? Are they directly compatible? Is this unit identical in size?

ANSWER: As we mentioned before that the big issue with the FD-05HF is the FFC/FPC type ribbon cable on the back, that it may be placed backwards in the socket incorrectly. The machine may also require a reversed type of FFC ribbon cable, where the silver fingers on the ends are on the bottom of the ribbon instead of on the top (or vice versa).

Basically pin 1 on the motherboard has to correspond to pin 1 on the USB replacement, AND the sockets have to actually contact the ribbons as they may expect the silver fingers on the other side. Sockets may be purchased to do either way, touch the silver fingers on one side, or the other side.

Otherwise its the same size and shape and everything.
